Beijing is the capital of China and the city with the second largest population in the world (about 21 million people). It is over 3000 years old.
A mountain range protects Beijing from the desert, and The Great Wall of China was built long ago to protect Beijing from attackers. On average, the temperature can be as cold as 17 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter and as hot as 90 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer. It is a very humid environment due to monsoons in East Asia.
Because of the large number of people and factories in Beijing, the air in the city is very polluted and can cause health problems for some people.
